What is STEM?

I grew up interested in science; however, I was unsure which path to take for my future career. When I started my first semester of college, I was inspired by volunteering at the National History Museum and witnessing scientists classify live animals. This led me to pursue a degree in cellular and molecular biology.

(STEM) stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Many undergraduate college students are now majoring in many STEM fields. The utmost importance is implementing STEM in early education. According to the U.S. Department of Education, “In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it's more important than ever that our nation's youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions.”

Pursuing a career in STEM has been an important milestone for many. It has allowed students to excel beyond their job and develop meaningful skills to prepare for the workforce.

More specifically, the field of science has been an integral part of our community and lives, from scientific research to hands-on care for patients.

Education is also a fundamental skill in our community, as it gives college students the opportunity to work with K-12 students. It will help prepare them to become the best teachers they can become. Through new programs and grants, students can now make their dream a reality.

STEM is more than just a name; it has become an important satisfaction for college students. Feeling proud to major in a STEM field can motivate students, especially women, to work hard.

Women working in STEM fields have been associated with lower pay and fewer opportunities to advance in their careers, but today much of that has changed. More women are leading the workforce at higher levels than men and are now breaking barriers. STEM has become an integral part of our lives and will continue to be so for future generations.
